Language Arts Welcomes You I am Ms. Foley, your Language Arts teacher. You will be learning further about the reading, writing, listening, and speaking of the English language. During the school year we will have short and long term projects. Our classroom is a community of writers and readers. Listening and Speaking How strong are our listening skills? Are we able to silently and patiently wait while we listen? Are we quietly and attentively listening to others? Do we expect others to listen to us? What is our purpose when we speak? How do we expect our audience to respond to our speaking? How successful have we been? Poetry is Alive Often there will be poems read aloud. http://poetry.org Reading - On a Journey In reading we venture forth exploring the various genres of reading such as adventure fiction, realistic fiction, historical fiction, and fantasy fiction. Students read independently, in small groups, and as a larger group. There will be time for discussion and opportunities for written responses. Writing Out of our observations, thoughts, and timed writings we will pluck ideas for short stories, personal narratives, poems, essays, and much more. Students clean up and polish pieces to share with others. |
